Andy is an activist and educator around gender, sexuality, positive consent practices, and de-escalation and communication, and speaks at various organizations and events on the East Coast about those topics, including the Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit, Open Love NY, Skidmore College, and Columbia University.
In Andy's capacity as Associate Attorney, Andy aids every facet of Ms. Adams' practice, and is well equipped to aid clients with a broad array of legal needs including alternative reproduction agreements, estate planning, advanced directives, adoptions, cohabitation agreements, divorce, and separation. As a trained mediator and collaborative attorney, Andy handles the firm's sliding scale and pro bono docket, and can serve French- or German-speaking clients as well.
Andy studied Sociolinguistics at Skidmore College, focusing on nonbinary gender and paralinguistic communication, was awarded college and departmental honors, and was invited to the 6th Annual Conference on Technology, Knowledge, and Society in Aix-en-Provence, after which the paper was published in the International Journal of Arts and Sciences. Andy then attended New York Law School on a Trustee Scholarship and affiliated with the Justice Action Center, concentrating in Social Justice and Family Law. As chair of the National Lawyers Guild Student Chapter, the Stonewall Law Students Association, and Law Students for Reproductive Justice, Andy dedicated his law school career in both study and extracurricular time to organizing and activism, and received the law school's Public Service Certification upon graduating. Andy's Justice Action Center capstone project, "Radicalizing Consent: Towards Implementing an Affirmative Consent Model in New York's Rape Law," received the Center's "Outstanding Work on a Capstone" award and was later published on the Yes Means Yes blog. Andy's writing has also been published in 24Magazine, Sibling Rivalry Press, and the Advocate.
Andy currently educates at organizations, schools, and conferences all over the country, including the LGBT Bar Association Conference, Creating Change, the Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit, Columbia University, New York University, Harvard University, Rutgers University, Skidmore College, and the Family and Divorce Mediation Council on gender, sexuality, consent and communication, and transformative justice and community accountability.
Andy is an attorney admitted to the First Department of the New York State bar and has received extensive training in alternative dispute resolution and justice systems, including as a mediator through the New York Center for Interpersonal Development, as a collaborative attorney through the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals, in facilitating Newburgh Model Restorative Justice processes through the Restorative Center, and in Transformative Justice work by Dr. Mimi Kim.
Andy is professionally affiliated with the NYC Bar Association and both national and local LGBT Bar Associations, including as a member of the Family Law Institute and Le-Gal's Family and Matrimonial Law Committee. He also spends significant time volunteering and organizing with the New York City chapter of the National Lawyers Guild as the Chapter Vice President, member of the Executive Committee, and dedicated Legal Observer and L.O. program trainer.
